Revival Frames: Turning Australian Timber Waste Into Sustainable Style for Your Home

Australians Produce Around 2,000kgs of Waste Per Person Each Year. So What Happens Inside Our Homes?

Australians produce around 2,000 kilograms of waste per person every year. That’s a lot of stuff. Old furniture. Packaging. Broken bits. And yes, plenty of perfectly good materials that simply don’t fit neatly into a system built for speed, not care.

Most of us want to live more sustainably, but the reality is this: big change often starts with small, everyday choices. What we bring into our homes. What we keep. And what we give a second life instead of sending straight to landfill.

That’s where Revival Frames come in.

Where Some See Scraps, We See Style

Ever wondered what happens to the odd-shaped, too-short or just plain weird bits of timber left over from making picture frames?

In most workshops, those off-cuts are swept up and sent off as waste. At Mulbury, we look at them and think, “Hang on… that’s still beautiful timber.”

Australian hardwood is full of history, grain and character. Knots, nail marks, colour variation, weathering. The stuff that makes old timber special is often the very reason it gets discarded. Too imperfect. Too unpredictable. Too small.

Bad news for the planet. Also bad news for your walls.

So instead of treating these off-cuts as leftovers, we decided to rethink waste and give them a second chance.

Introducing the Revival Frames

Shop Revival Frames

Revival Frames are handcrafted in Melbourne using recycled timber off-cuts rescued straight off our workshop floor. Each one is made from the same quality reclaimed timber we use for our full-sized frames, just in smaller, more adventurous pieces.

Every Revival Frame is different. Some are bold. Some are subtle. Some lean rustic, others surprisingly refined. No two are ever the same, and that’s entirely the point.

Think of them as the patchwork quilts of the framing world. Practical, poetic, and quietly confident.

This isn’t about making another product for the sake of it. It’s about celebrating imperfection, reducing waste, and proving that sustainable design doesn’t have to look “worthy” or boring to be good.

Bringing Sustainability Into Your Home (Without Going Full Minimalist)

In the frame: our youngest (and cutest) customer yet, with a Revival Frame

Sustainability at home doesn’t mean stripping everything back or replacing your entire life with beige bamboo alternatives.

Sometimes it’s as simple as choosing objects that already exist in the world, just reimagined.

A Revival Frame brings sustainability into your home in a very tangible way. It’s something you see every day. It holds a photo, artwork or memory that matters to you. And it quietly tells a bigger story about reuse, care and intention.

That’s sustainable living that actually sticks.

Small Batch. Big Impact.

Our supply of timber off-cuts is limited, which means Revival Frames are too. Each one is hand-selected and carefully made to meet the same standards as our regular frames before it ever reaches your wall.

They’re available in popular sizes including 7" x 5", 8" x 6", 8" x 10", A4 and A3, and can be hung, stood, or styled however you like.

Because the timber is reclaimed, colours and textures vary wildly and wonderfully. If you like surprises, you’ll love these.

From Workshop Floor to Your Wall

What started as timber too small for our usual frames has become something genuinely special. A frame that celebrates sustainability, creativity, and a very Australian knack for making the most of what we already have.

Revival Frames are proof that even the off-cuts deserve a moment in the spotlight.

And honestly, your walls will thank you for it.
