Limited Edition "Wharf Ironbark Timber Frame": Recycled Picture Frames from Australia
Limited Edition Wharf Timber Frames That Recycle History: Picture-Perfect Australian Craftsmanship
Holey Moley! Are you ready for this beauty of a frame?
We’ve done it again. Mulbury has managed to score some rare wharf timber from Central Pier at Melbourne’s Docklands, and we’re turning it into something truly special! A limited edition photo frame that quite literally holds a slice of Melbourne’s history.
These hand-crafted timber frames are made from wharf beams that date back roughly 150 years. They’ve seen salt, sea, storms, and the odd seagull or two. And now, they’re being lovingly transformed into pieces of fine art for your home.
Only ten A2 frames are available, so if you’re looking to buy something unique and bursting with character, this is your moment.
From Wharf to Wall: The Story Behind the Timber
This recycled Australian timber comes from various old piers and wharves across Melbourne including the legendary Central Pier. These piers were built between 60 and 100 years ago, but the trees used for construction were already mature, anywhere from 30 to 80 years old when milled. That means the material in these frames could easily be 150 years old or more. That’s older than the internet, colour TV, and most people’s patience levels.
Character You Can See and Feel
Now, let’s talk about the real show-stopper: the character. These timbers carry tiny, swirling tunnels carved by marine molluscs called shipworms (which, confusingly, aren’t worms at all, but salty little clams who loved a good chew on submerged timber). Their handiwork has left behind a textured, archival-quality pattern that looks like nature’s doodling.
You’ll also spot carbon staining, the result of a chemical tango between the timber’s tannins and the old iron bolts once used in the piers. The result? A moody mix of dark tones and rich patina that is perfectly imperfect and bursting with story.
Sustainable, Stylish, and Full of Soul
We’re big believers in giving old things new life. When you shop online at Mulbury, you’re supporting a business that cares deeply about sustainability. Each frame we make helps recycle historic timber, reducing waste while preserving Melbourne’s heritage.
Our frames are crafted by hand in Melbourne, using traditional joinery that guarantees quality and longevity. Every frame comes ready for hanging, complete with string and backing. We use recycled acrylic glass for a crystal-clear finish that’s lightweight, eco-friendly, and built to stand the test of time.
How to Make It Yours
There are only ten frames in this limited edition, so if you’re after something custom, don’t wait around. Each photo or picture frame is ready to purchase through our online store, and we’re always happy to offer friendly advice on custom framing and framing and printing options to help you get the most from your image.
We also offer a wide selection of other recycled timber frames in various sizes and colours, from white and black finishes to warm oiled tones that highlight the natural grain and colour of the wood.
A Little Something to Brag About
Each Wharf Timber frame is a beautiful combination of sustainability, heritage, and professional craftsmanship. It’s a true conversation starter that brings character and history into your home.
We’re not just a one-stop shop for wall art and custom framing. We’re also storytellers. And this story happens to be 150 years in the making that we are continuously unfolding for you.
